Adding Segments

After you have created your first brief, add some segments, which will become the building blocks of your edition. Each segment can be a story or other discrete piece of content you'd like to use to compose the finished edition. Once you have a few segments created and ready to go, you’ll be able to combine those segments, along with other elements, into your first edition. You can create each segment a few different ways: upload a file, start with a draft, or record directly in your browser.

Upload a File

The quickest way to add a segment to Spooler is simply to drag an audio file into the upload window. From the Segments tab, click the "Upload" button. Drag and drop as many MP3 or WAV files as you'd like, or browse and select the files on your device. Spooler stores the files in their original formats and converts them to your desired output bitrate after the edition has been created.

After you've uploaded your files as segments, place them in your new edition by dragging them from the Library Window, on the left, to the Playlist Window, to the right.

Create a Draft

Maybe you've got the script and all the metadata for a segment, but the audio hasn't yet been completed. You can create a draft segment as a placeholder for that audio. You'll be able to see and search for the segment in your library, even though the audio hasn't yet been attached.

To create a draft, select "Create a New Draft" from the upload segments page. Add your metadata like title and description, and select "Create Segment." Your segment will appear in your library, with the media Play and Pause buttons missing, awaiting the upload of audio.

To add audio to a draft segment, go to the segment's Edit page, and at the bottom click "New Version." From there, you'll be able to upload the segment's audio file. Once uploaded, the segment is ready to go.

Record in Browser

In addition to uploading segment audio from your computer, Spooler allows you to record a new segment directly, using your browser and attached audio input. See the Record in Browser page for more detail.
